STOTHERT & PITT U17 - 29pts WELLS U17 - 5pts
The Cranes new venture into under 17 rugby saw the team win their second out of three games so far this this season by winning this morning 29pts - 5pts against Wells.

Stotherts hosted Wells in a highly anticipated match after their first win last week against Avon.

Stotherts Jim Hardman took the starting kick - despite running uphill in the first half the Cranes managed to turnover the ball and gained possession. The ball founds it way into the arms of Toby Patrick who powered through the Wells disorganised defence shaking of three to score the first points of the day.

The Cranes managed to keep much possession in the early stages and began to play as a team for the first time. There was some terrific handling on both parts especially from scrum half George Patrick who delivered a superb off load to danger man Jackson Hamilton who in seizing a gap in the wells defence secured Stotherts second try of the game.

Wells scored an unconverted try after 20 minutes to make the scores 10 - 5 to Stothert & Pitt. However, this did not dampen the hearts of the Stothert players who continued to apply pressure spending the remaining time within the Wells 22.

The second half began with as much pace, skill and determination as the first had. With only 5 points in it both teams endeavoured to get the winning score. Stotherts remained to dominate the break downs, scrums and lineouts and turned over many Wells opportunities due to Captain Harry Clesham and his Corstons Pack.

The forwards effort was rewarded when George Patrick spotted an opportunity, after Stotherts stole the ball in a Wells scrum, the scrum half went blind on his own running half the pitch to secure another Stotherts try. This was converted by Jackson Hamilton who later powered over the Wells try line but was held up. This resulted in a Stotherts Scrum on the 5 metre line. Liam Edwards at No.8 chose to go on his own, blind side and use all 17 stone of him to carry himself, the ball and a few Wells players over the line to score a try - again converted by Jackson Hamilton.

A rare gap in the Stotherts defence was seized by Wells who chose to give the ball to their speed man who opened up and ran towards the line, little did he know that Lee Davies and George Patrick where giving chase who caught up to tackle and hold up Wells’ best effort.

The Cranes thrived to get one more score on the board. Continuing to turnover breakdowns and hosting flowing ball handling skills ; much to the delight of enthused Coach Dan Smith, the ball piloted through the Cranes offence to be met by Stotherts answer to Bryan Habana - Ben Miles who raced down the left wing to secure a talented try which brought the final score to 29 - 5 to Stothert & Pitt.

Congratulations to Russel Mounty who was given man of the match as a result of consistent tackling and hard work at the breakdowns.

UNDER 17'S RECORD FIRST VICTORY
Sothert & Pitt 10pts AVON 5 pts

Stotherts entertained Avon in a hastily arranged match as The Canes original opponents were playing a re-scheduled cup match and recorded their first ever victory

Avon were without their 6 county players and played down the Adamsfield pitch in the first half which was a keenly contested affair with plenty of free flowing rugby and excellent tackling from both sets of players.

Avon scored an unconverted try wide out after 20 minutes to go 5 points up which they kept until half time

The second half continued in the same vein with the Avon forwards beginning to drive well in the mauls which Stotherts managed to contain well and they indeed scored an equalizing try through left winger Ben Miles 10 minutes into the second half.

With the score now level at 5-5 both teams eneavoured to get the winning score but when the game was as good as over Stothert's fly half Jim Hardman saw his drop goal attempt disallowed to the disgust of the home cowd.

However the ensuing drop out was collected by the Cranes left wing and after passing through three pairs of hands Toby Patrick crossed the Avon line to score the winning try with the last move of the match
