CORSHAM U17 10pts STOTHERT & PITT U17 15pts
SUNDAY JANUARY 18th 2009

Stothert & Pitt Under 17 team travelled to Corsham for their first match of 2009 following two matches that were cancelled due to frozen pitches.

Both teams tested each other out in the opening stages and Stotherts scored first when Corsham were penalised for not rolling away at the tackle in front of the posts and Kye Emmett duly converted the penalty.

Stotherts right winger Joe Anderson was notable in attack in the first half but both sides gave away penalties and of which neither side could benefit by putting points on the scoreboard.

Corsham ended the first half the stronger team and Stothert’s defence did really well to keep their line intact and the score at 3-0 to their advantage at half time.

The supporters were thinking that as Stotherts had the wind behind them and Corsham the sun in their eyes in the second half a victory was on the plate but Corsham had other ideas and after 5 minutes of the second half scored a well executed unconverted try to take the lead 5-3

10 minutes later a strong run by the Stotherts scrum half Ben Miles found his No 8 Dan Burcombe in support to charge over the Corsham and all his team mates groaned as the conversion attempt from Emmett rebounded of the right hand post.

Now leading 8-5 Stotherts stronger forwards began to take control and a quickly taken tap penalty saw Emmett pirouette over the Corsham line and convert it to bring his personal points tally to 10 and the score 15-5 to the visitors.

To their credit Corsham were not going to accept defeat and bounced back with an unconverted try in the left hand corner to reduce the arrears to 5 points with the score then 15-10 and they continued to pound away at the Stotherts try line whose defence stood firm for their first victory of 2009.

Kye Emmett was duly named as Stotherts man of the match for his 10 point haul and touch line kicking

Next Sunday – 25th January The Cranes under 17 team travel to Devizes for a 2.00 kick off whilst training continues on Monday nights at their Corston headquarters.
