CUP NEWS - CORRECTION TO CHRONICLE REPORT - 04/09/

Contrary to the headline in the junior rugby season previews of last night's Bath Chronicle we are not in a "Double cup test for Stotherts on opening weekend" The first round of the EDF Senior Vase cup against Westbury will be played at Corston tomorrow - Saturday 6th September and the Somerset Cup preliminary round at North Petherton has been resecheduled for Saturday 20th September when we are also play North Petherton in the Somerset Premier League with the winner taking the league and cup spoils

BANES GET ACTIVE FUN DAY 30th AUGUST - FEED BACK

Stothert & Pitt Rugby Club partcipated in the Family Fun Day organised by Bath & North East Somerset Council's Sports & Leisure Get Active Team which was being held on the Recreation Ground on Saturday 30th August Our main reason to be there was part of our recruitment campaign for youngsters between the ages of 11 and 16 to join our new lottery funded youth rugby section which resulted with some new recruits at training last night (1st September) We organised a timed rugby skill circuit with prizes for the fastest male and females (penalty points were added where applicable) We had an excellent response of youngsters on the circuit many of whom thought it was the most challenging event held on the day and we certainly spread the word of our club to visitors The Rugby Football Union roadshow was also in attendance as well as other sports organisations from the area as well as the GWR Black Thunders Thanks goes to the members of the youth section who helped with demonstartions throughout the event along with Tim Scott and Andy Phillips (Phillips dad) Tony Adams 18th August 2008

TEAM SELECTIONS - SATURDAY 6th SEPTEMBER

Two teams have been selected for this Saturday - 6th September. The 1st XV play Westbury in the national cup and the 3rd XV are playing Nailsea and Backwell in a Somerset North Division league match. Both matches are at Corston kick off 3.00pm Please view the team sheets by following the link - Team Sheets on left hand side of home page The 3rd team posted is names of players but not necessarily in correct positions or indeed replacements.

YOUTH SECTION FRIENDLY - 10th SEPTEMBER

Our newly formed youth section are to play a friendly match at Avon on Wednesday 10th September - kick off 6.30pm The match will take the shape of 3 or 4 20 minute sessions to ensure all players get some match practice and the opportunity to evaluate any law changes. Players will be contacted to finalise details

Pre Season Training 1st July

Pre Season training for 2008-2009 will start on Tuesday 1st July. Coaches Roger Surrey and Jamie Knocker will be putting the players through their paces. There will be training on Tuesdays and Thursdays, sessions start at 6.30pm. Support the Captains for the Season Liam Crooks (1st XV), Mark Solomon (2nd XV). Everyone is welcome new players and old.

Liam Crooks was re-elected as Club Captain for the coming 2008-09 season at the recently held AGM Mark Solomon has been elected 2nd XV captain and a vacancy exists for the third XV captain.

SOMERSET CUP VASE DRAW

The preliminary and first round draws have been made for the Somerset Vase Cup. We did not get the best of draws being North Petherton away in the preliminary round. The date to be played still has to be confirmed

The club Annual General Meeting will be held at our Corston headquarters on Tuesday 10th June starting at 8.00pm. This is the members opportunity to elect the committee for the club along with team captains for the following year. Current members are asked to make every effort to attend.
